Surf3D AGENT: ThomasGovAgent_1.xo WHAT IT DOES: Gathers news extracts from articles from Excite News search at thomas.loc.gov and more specifically, at: http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c107query.html (the advanced query page) WHAT ITS GOOD FOR: Keeping track of particular types of Bill in Congress Getting relevant Bill summaries Getting Congressional Bill sentence extracts containing your chosen word terms HOW IT WORKS: Drills down into each Congressional Bill in your search results and extracts sentences containing your preferred extraction keywords HOW TO SET IT UP: Save-As the provided ThomasGovAgent_1.xo to a new name, such as MyThomasGovAgent_1.xo Type preferred text extract keywords into the Metric channel lines A and B and C such as words to refine and further qualify and categorize the pages Do not type anything into the OR line of the main agent search window HOW TO USE IT: Start your Web Browser Go to: http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c107query.html (for Bills in the current 107th Congress) Enter search terms into the advanced search line at Thomas Select number of bills to be retrieved to 100 (e.g.) in the selection box Submit the search, and Search hits results appears (up to 100 results) Click on first search result hit to go that page, e.g. "H.R.2938.IH" Click on "Hit List" link on that page for the first return (this returns you to the full hit list with a usable URL for Surf3D) Go to the Surf3D Agent search window (via the 'X' icon on the toolbar) and click the GET-URL button on the panel Type in any word terms into the Metric channels A, B and C as you prefer to count Now click the right pointing triangle icon on the main Surf3D toolbar to start the agent Let it run until it gathers 100 more pages (current limit set to 500 pages) VARIATIONS TO TRY: Browse the different view buttons #1 through #8 Try different searches with different keywords for text extraction Type in the code %TEXT into any Metric line to gather sentence extracts based on those Metric channel word terms (up a 1000 characters total gathered)
